Facts

North Beach Village Resort has one of the largest collections of Mid-Century Modern Architecture buildings in Ft. Lauderdale.   It is our mission to employ architects with similar visions of our forefathers to assist in making the necessary aesthetic and structural improvements to these properties, rather than to demolish and remove the architectural footprint of the past.  In keeping with the original design of low-level buildings, NBVR will continue to protect the beautiful views that have been enjoyed and envied over the years.  The “Birch Estate” properties in our portfolio are surrounded by spacious wide vistas that welcome pedestrians, bikers and various activities.  It is our goal to enhance this original landscape with attractive streetscapes that will invite people to gather, shop, in addition to creating a sense of community and culture.

While large luxury hotels offer quite an appeal to some, North Beach Village Resort’s vision is to recapture the charm and beauty of the more intimate boutique style Mid-Century hotels; thereby offering a home away from home environment with an upscale touch.

Did you know…..

Birch Estates-Birch Estates is nestled between A1A, the Intracoastal Waterway, Bayshore Drive & Vistamar Street. Developed in the 50s, it maintains the largest collection of Mid-Century Modern architecture in the area.  The historic roadway pattern remains unchanged since that time period.

Architecture-Mid-century modern architecture is usually defined as buildings constructed between the mid-1950s through the late 1960s.  Typical mid-century architecture features include abstract shapes and curves, innovative use of materials, and a sense of humor and optimism. Many people refer to this period as “googie”, “jetset”, “space age”, “Jetsons”, “populuxe”, etc.

Market Transitioning-As history shows, Ft Lauderdale’s marketplace for the period of 1960s-1980s was geared towards the younger spring break crowd.  After experiencing some drawbacks as a result of this, Ft. Lauderdale began reaching out to the older, wealthier crowd.  In doing so, many of the smaller boutique hotels were demolished and replaced with larger luxury hotels.

Properties-All of our hotels are rated “C”, for contributing, which means these structures offer architectural qualities, historic associations or archaeological values significant of the time period in which they were erected.  This rating may qualify these properties for local designation by the National Registry. Of the 120 properties in this area, 94 of the 25 properties owned by North Beach Village Resort are classified as “C”
